In the paragraph "What drives the shooters?" I believe that the shooters are usually mentally ill and that they don't know what their purpose is. They also have some sort of dream of being famous or getting what they want and they need to have that justified. In the paragraph it says that "With hard work, anyone can be wealthy and successful," whenever that doesn't happen, the mass shooters feel like they have been done wrong, and the only way to achieve fame or wealth is by doing something violent or bad. It also is said that "64% of mass shooters are white people," which makes sense, because most white people are privileged and they think that they will just get everything that they want, and when the don't get it they feel abandoned by society, which leads them down a dark path of violence.

In "My sister, the Soldier" the main idea of the article is to describe the experience of having a family member that enlists in the army.
The article provides evidence from each character that supports this main idea. The mother backs the main idea by saying, "You're terribly young. It's too difficult, challenging, and dangerous, you should really reconsider." The sister backs the main idea by saying, "We waited and waited, and I'm worried, too. The sister soldier backs the main idea by saying, "I need to have a career, not a part-time job..." |
